Recently appointed new president and CEO AC Powell, JD, CPS, will guide the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) by creating building industry, and public and private sector connections to lead the nation’s built environment future.
Powell served for nearly five years as Executive Director and CEO of the Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE). AFE brings together professionals who ensure the optimal operation of high-rise commercial real estate, industrial plants, government facilities, higher education campuses, and medical centers. In the new role, Powell will lead efforts to expand NIBS’ programs and markets, while growing and strengthening its membership base.
Powell also has a deep background in education, working with the Prince William County school system in Virgina. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Stratford University, teaching courses on business law, business ethics, and competition and innovation.
“AC Powell’s experience, dynamic people skills, and enthusiasm for NIBS’ mission make him a great choice for this leadership role,” said NIBS’ board chair, Anne Ellis, P.E., Hon.M.ACI, F.ASCE, M.NAC.
US Congress-established NIBS is a non-governmental, non-profit organization. It brings together labor and consumer interests, government representatives, regulatory agencies, and members of the building industry to identify and resolve existing and potential problems in the built environment.
