How the Lancaster Marriott increased guest satisfaction scores while simplifying maintenance

The Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square, in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is a driving economic engine as the premier hotel and convention center in the city. With a deeply rich history not only surrounding the facility, but inside the facility itself, the design evolution has focused on the idea of ‘quaint meets cosmopolitan’, a combination aimed at guest satisfaction.

“The composition of events and business that we were attracting was in the meetings vertical. So, we wanted to create a destination for that. What we found was the demand for guest rooms was exceeding what we had set originally,” shares Josh Nowak, general manager.

To answer this need, a new 12-story tower went up where they took the opportunity to update all guest rooms and streamline to a singular design that considered guest feedback, while also aiding in easier maintenance and operations. This included making the decision to swap carpet to Armstrong LVT in their most consequential spaces.

“The upkeep on vacuums adds up. Normally we would have 30 housekeeping at one time. That’s 30 vacuums to buy and maintain…there’s a lot of efficiencies there, transitioning from carpet to LVT,” says Nowak.
