The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has released a new Technical Information Report (TIR) aimed at establishing criteria for specifiers to determine where to place deflection and permanent deformation gauge devices. AAMA TIR-A18-21, Structural Test Deflection and Permanent Deformation Gauge Placement for Fixed and Compression Seal Windows is now available for specifiers and other construction experts.

This TIR describes the correct placement of deflection measurement devices, and calculations for determining deflection and permanent deformation when performing structural testing of fixed and compression seal products under uniform static air pressure difference per ASTM E330/E330M and/or AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440. The recording of maximum deflection and permanent deformation is a mandatory requirement when testing products for structural performance to these standards.

“This is the second in a planned series of documents spearheaded by the FGIA Accredited Independent Laboratories Committee designed to create greater continuity among laboratories in the application of ASTM E330,” said Jason Seals, FGIA certification services fenestration manager, the staff liaison who worked with the Structural Test Deflection and Permanent Deformation Gauge Placement Review Task Group on this TIR.
